One of my favorite sports is beach volleyball. A chance to take advantage of Cape Cod’s beautiful beaches. You can have your toes in the sand and enjoy some friendly competition. There is a small group of players on the Cape dedicated to the sport. CASL is looking to grow those numbers.
The sport itself can have a wide variety of how to play. There is 6 v 6, 4 v 4, 3 v 3, and getting down to the more difficult 2 v 2. Beach volleyball is best to start at 4 v 4. This gives you a small area to cover. The rotation gives you the opportunity with all the different aspects of the game.
The range of skill level is what makes this a difficult sport to grow. A beginners game vs a skilled 2s game is a big difference. We are looking to create a way that we can mash the different skill levels. Make it a fun experience for everyone.
People have different views of what they want out of the sport too. A great athlete might be new to the sport and want to learn. Their end goal to be competitive at any level. Other players might want to have fun playing around with no more of a goal than to have some laughs.
CASL is looking to create an activity that will be a good fit for all. The idea is to break the players into different skill levels.
-
New to the sport and need to learn the rules and basic:
-
Know the rules, understands bump, set, spike concept and positioning
-
Decent fundamentals and grasp of strategies
-
Solid fundamentals, strategies, and game play
-
Ready for 2v2, Hand Sets
CASL is not looking to make this a serious camp. We want to provide a place to help the sport grow. If you are looking to advance through the stages fantastic. That works too if you want to get on the court and play. We ask that you try to play by the basic style of the game. This means to take time to learn the basics. Give best effort for the Bump, Set, Hit style.
If everyone plays the general style of the game, then it will be more enjoyable for everyone. If a skilled player shows up and people are not playing by the rules, they will get frustrated and not return. If a new player comes in and the skilled players are jumping in front of the new player, then the newbie will not return. The best way to grow the sport is to create an environment for everyone.
